Biomasa Forestal is a Galician company based in As Pontes (A Coruña), dedicated to the production and distribution of solid biofuels, mostly wood pellets and wood chips.

The factory has a production capacity of 75,000 tonnes of wood pellets per year. It is considered one of the biggest factories in Spain, both in terms of production and capacity.

To produce 75,000 tonnes of wood pellets we need about 150,000 tonnes of wood which, in the case of Biomasa Forestal, come from sustainably managed forests. This way we guarantee the maintenance of biodiversity, productivity, regeneration capacity and vitality; as well as our potential to fulfil, now and in the future, our important ecological, economic and social role at the local, national and global levels, without harming other ecosystems.

Strategy focused on innovation and process improvement.

We cooperate with several actors of the innovative ecosystem to develop new projects, launch new products and optimize our production process (digitalization).

This way we have taken part in projects aiming to find logistics solutions for bagged products (Conecta Peme), improve the use of Biomass (Life +) or develop other functionalities for the product, such as the use of wood pellets as hygienic beds in poultry farms. An acceleration programme has also allowed us to create our newest line, PETS Bioforestal: wood pellets made specifically to be used as litter for pets.

Estrategia

From Galicia… to the world.

Both the raw material extraction and the manufacture of wood pellets for residential use take place in Galicia.

Galician forests generate about 5.5 million tonnes of biomass that can be used sustainably every year. Using this instead of fossil fuels (heating oil, gas, etc.) would avoid CO2 emissions and allow savings in the fuel purchase close to 50%.

Our products are not only sold all over the national market but also exported to other countries such as the UK, France, Ireland and other European countries.

Our customers are committed to a biofuel for the present … and for the future.

From large distribution chains of bagged pellets to bulk pellet consumers in the agricultural and industrial sectors, public facilities, hotels, large stores and private users.

The number of installed pellet boilers and stoves has been growing steadily by 20% in recent years, and this growth rate is expected to continue until 2022.

Consequently, the consumption of wood pellets in Spain in 2019 is expected to achieve 650,000 tonnes compared to 573,000 tonnes in 2018. Total consumption in Spain is estimated to reach 950,000 tonnes by 2022.
